The Infrastructure Forum was delighted to hold the Sir John Armitt Annual Lecture, welcoming distinguished members of the infrastructure community for an address by Michael Gerrard, Chair of INPP, followed by remarks from Becky Wood, CEO of NISTA. Chaired by James Stewart, Chair of Agilia, the audience heard Mike Gerrard explore key forward looking objectives and challenges for the sector.

The Infrastructure Forum inaugurated the Annual Sir John Armitt Lecture in 2025. The Lecture provided an opportunity for Sir John to address significant issues facing the sector and to set out authoritative perspectives on the future of UK infrastructure. Each year a distinguished figure in the infrastructure world will address the gathering.

The Forum were particularly pleased that speaking over dinner at the latest meeting of The Infrastructure Forum Advisory Council, on Thursday 31 October 2024, was the Minister of State and Minister for Industry at the Department for Business and Trade, Sarah Jones MP.

The 2025 gathering once again featured a remarkable assembly of talent, including the Chairs of all of the UK's economic regulators, alongside a series of expert discussants and the Permanent Secretary at Department for Business. The Summit is Chaired by Sir Alex Chisholm, Chair of EDF UK.

The Forum, in collaboration with Accenture, released a paper that explores a new strategy to better manage uncertainty and enhance productivity on large-scale infrastructure projects in the UK. It was launched at an event looking into the key upfront challenges facing infrastructure projects and the need for innovative strategies to set projects up for success.

The Forum were joined for a lunch by Darren Jones to gain an understanding of Labour’s plans in relation to infrastructure spending as well as progress with Labour's Major Capital Projects Review and other manifesto issues.

The 2025 Hartwell House Policy Summit brought together the leaders of UK infrastructure for a unique strategic forward look on infrastructure policy. New Chair of NISTA, Becky Wood, gave a keynote speech. John Holland-Kaye, Chair of Sizewell C gave the dinner address.

The Forum's Investment Working Group held a roundtable with Geoffrey Spence. The discussion provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the infrastructure investment landscape and to help him assess current views and priorities in the infrastructure sector.

The Forum held a special roundtable to connect private sector investors with the potential future pipeline of rail projects. Dame Bernadette Kelly, Permanent Secretary of the Department for Transport, Sir David Higgins, former Chair of HS2, and Keith Williams, author of the Williams-Shapps review and Chair of Royal Mail, led the discussion.

The government’s
Spending Review has important consequences for the infrastructure sector and for investment. Following the spending announcements and the government’s 10 year infratructure strategy, the Forum was joined by David Lunn, Director of Corporate Finance at HM Treasury to explore the consequences for the sector.

The Forum held a roundtable meeting with Fintan Slye, CEO of NESO to explore the UK’s potential pathways to 2030 Net Zero and the role of the NESO in achieving the Government’s goals.

The 2024 Hartwell House Summit, held in November, was on the theme ‘Scaling-up Infrastructure’. Rt Hon Darren Jones MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury joined the Summit. Lord Hutton of Furness, Labour Peer and Chair of the Association of Infrastructure Investors, gave the dinner address.
